Holic "한글" Hangeul T-Shirt

Did you know the Korean alphabet is called Hangeul (한글)?
The name combines the ancient Korean word han(), meaning great, and geul(), meaning script.  The word han is used to refer to Korea in general, so together, hangeul means Korean script.

It all seems complicated, but unlike Chinese or Japanese, which have hundreds or even thousands of characters, Hangeul only has 24 basic letters: 14 consonants and 10 vowels.

Hangeul was made by Sejong the Great (세종대왕), the 4th King of the Joseon Dynasty in 1443 when he published Hunminjeong'eum Haeryebon (훈민정음 해례본) and became the official writing script of Korea in the late 19th century.

According to Hunminjeong'eum Haeryebon, the two main design ideas of Hangeul are as the following:
The first one is that the consonants of Hangeul look like vocal organs and the second is that the vowels of Hangeul are based on three elements of philosophy, which are sky, earth, and human.
Because of these ideas, believe it or not, Hangeul is well known for being easy to learn.

Study the Hangeul alphabet chart and see if you can decipher the code on the back of our t-shirt!
